Greetings

On July 27, 2013, Nexon Computer Museum has begun its communication with the world as the first computer museum in Asia. Although the pressure of being the ‘first’ was somewhat heavy, it was also blended with a proudness and excitement.

Historically, there was a human at the starting point of every media. Within about 80 years of its history, computers are consistently becoming more like ‘us’ as a tool of thought and a part of us, and has turn into ‘an idea that changes the paradigm of our life’. Thus, Nexon Computer Museum aspires to become a place where holds the technological development of an ongoing media ‘computer’ within a broad range of sociocultural context, not just as a relic of the past.

The historical significance of the video game should not be excluded: another ongoing media that has driven the rapid growth and popularization of computer technology and became one of the most progressive ways of communication. We believe that video games had not only led the technological innovation in various fields in the computer industry but also first introduced computers as entertainment. Those who first found excitement in early personal computers have now become the pathfinders in the digital technology and computer industry and let us experience a whole new world of online across the globe. Nexon Computer Museum hopes to be able to share another fun beyond imagination and a motive of newly future to the children and teenagers of the present through their inspiration at that time.

The number of our collections may not be as diverse as those of several prolonged and well-known computer museums in other countries. However, with about 200,000 visitors in a year, those personal narratives are piled on to create a variety of exhibition context and the unique history of Nexon Computer Museum. Furthermore, visitors who have experienced an era of the birth and growth of the Korean online game feel proud of being a cultural consumer. Starting from the small history of each individual like this, we’re committed to making Korea's digital history together with the visitor as the IT leader and the host country of online games.

Just as the NEXON was preparing its first online game to the world and sharing the fun of it with many people, we are also excited to begin our new and fun voyage to the unknown world. We try to relieve the burden of being the ‘first’ through active and continuous communication to the world. We look forward to the exhibitions and programs being harmonized with the visitors and becoming the “frame” that creates another story and envisions a new future, like a virtual world that infinitely expands itself.
